This article presents a structured review of a book titled “Dunya ke Baray Mazahib” (The Major Religions of the World), which offers a comprehensive introduction to eight major religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The study highlights the author’s stated objective of addressing the lack of balanced, research-based, and objective works on comparative religion in the Urdu language. Emphasis is placed on the book’s methodological approach, which seeks to present each religion sympathetically yet analytically, relying on historical development, doctrinal foundations, and primary textual references. The article examines how each chapter outlines the historical background, core beliefs, sacred texts, internal developments, and sectarian formations within the respective traditions. It also notes the inclusion of appendices containing selected excerpts from sacred scriptures, enabling readers to engage directly with foundational sources. Through a descriptive and analytical overview, this paper evaluates the book’s contribution to the academic study of religions and its relevance for students of comparative religion. The findings suggest that the work serves as a useful introductory resource that promotes informed understanding and intellectual engagement across religious traditions.
