Abstract

The 1974 Khatm-e-Nubuwwat Movement in Pakistan represents a crucial juncture in the nation’s religious and political evolution. Initially a religious movement defending the Islamic belief in the finality of Prophethood, it soon expanded into a socio-political force that shaped Pakistan’s constitutional, economic, and cultural identity. This research explores the movement’s multidimensional impacts—religious, political, economic, and social—through historical and analytical perspectives. The declaration of Ahmadis as non-Muslims through the Second Constitutional Amendment in 1974 redefined the boundaries of state and religion, institutionalized clerical influence, and created enduring socio-political transformations. Economically, the movement affected business relations, migration patterns, and class structures within Pakistani society. Socially, it fostered unity among mainstream Muslims but also deepened sectarian polarization. The movement’s legacy persists in shaping Pakistan’s religious discourse, governance, and national consciousness.
